Best House Concerts -
Highlands House Concert Series
"Taking in a show at Dwight Mark's charming home in
Highland is more like attending a friend's dinner party than seeing
a concert at a formal venue. Prior to the performance, folks nosh on
light hors d'oeuvre and chat, then eventually make their way to the
living room for intimate, one-of-a-kind performances by an array of
engaging acts, from celebrated local talent to well-regarded
imports. And while the idea of living-room concerts might alarm the
neighbors, Mark is careful to keep the music at a reasonable level —
so much so that when you're standing on the porch, you can only
faintly hear the sounds coming from inside. Props to Mark for a
unique experience."
Special thanks to Westword, all my performing
artists, co-hosts, and guests for making these events so wonderful.
Also special thanks to the
Chings at Aspen Meadows House Concerts for their dedication to
keeping the spirit of House Concerts alive and secure for years to
come.

The House
In August of 2005, the future home of the Highlands House Concerts was
purchased near the Historic Highlands
Square Neighborhood at 32nd and Lowell in Northwest Denver. The
house was built in 1890 and is similar to the historic Denver Squares that
were built in the decades to follow. The house received renovations including the removal off a wall between the living and family
room which opened up into one room with 10-foot ceilings large enough for the performing artist and 40 seats.

The Host
Singer-songwriter, Dwight
Mark, began his musical career in Chicago as a leader of the band Blues
Express.Prior to his move to
Colorado in 1996, he purchased a mandolin and dobro and began studying bluegrass
music. Once in Colorado, Dwight quickly adapted the mandolin and bottleneck
slide dobro guitar into contemporary folk and pop music while taking them along
to travels around the world and 35 of America’s National Parks. With his new CD release, Soul’s Engines, Dwight shares his stories of
his move to Colorado, his travels, and the relationships along the way.Dwight’s heartfelt and soulful performances are played on guitars,
mandolins, Portuguese guitarras, ukulele, and a rare Weissenborn Hawaiian slide
guitar built in the 1920's.Acoustic
Guitar Magazine’s Andy Volk says, “Dwight’s vibrant, richly textural
arrangements and soaring vocals describe a crossroads where acoustic, folk,
rock, and pop meet in songs that celebrate the beauty of nature and the
unbridled joy of the groove.”
