2012 Shows

The Waymores return to Highlands House Concerts.  They've posted video evidence that the CD is being mixed - so we should have the new CD in time for this show!

The Waymores

Don Henry, Sally Barris & Tom Kimmel

February 12th, 2012

A delicious blend of contemporary folk, retro pop and old school country by three of the best performing songwriters in the world!

Grammy Award winner DON HENRY's songs have been recorded by Ray Charles, Patti Page, Conway Twitty, Kathy Mattea and dozens of other great artists and has long been appreciated as one of Nashville's finest singer-songwriters.

Whether in her own hands or those of hit artists like Martina McBride or Lee Ann Womack, SALLY BARRIS’ music makes an indelible impression. And while her writing credits mightily impress—her songs have been covered by Trisha Yearwood & Keith Urban, John Michael Montgomery, Kathy Mattea and many others.

TOM KIMMEL's business card facetiously reads Overnight Success, but the truth is far from it. After graduating college he worked as a short order cook, bus boy, taxi driver, chef, shipping clerk, lab technician, janitor, waiter, bartender and window washer on his way to establishing himself as an award winning songwriter (Johnny Cash, Linda Ronstadt, Joe Cocker, Randy Travis and a host of others) and critically acclaimed performing artist (seven albums).

Caleb Hawley - March 9th, 2012

I first saw Caleb in a song circle at the Rocky Mountain Folks Fest this year just before he won their song contest!  His guitar playing alone is worth the ticket, but his songwriting, voice and performances are so impressively entertaining that you don't want miss this rising star!  He has received top honors in the prestigious New York Songwriters Circle Contest (2008 and 2009), the John Lennon Songwriting Contest (2009), the Telluride Festival (2010), the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival (2010).  You may also recognize him from his sting on American Idol where Stephen Tyler cheered him on!

Check out his website or youtube videos and then submit your reservation request!  This is a private concert by reservation in advance only.

Best House Concerts  Highlands House Concert Series

"Taking in a show at Dwight Mark's charming home in Highland is more like attending a friend's dinner party than seeing a concert at a formal venue. Prior to the performance, folks nosh on light hors d'oeuvre and chat, then eventually make their way to the living room for intimate, one-of-a-kind performances by an array of engaging acts, from celebrated local talent to well-regarded imports. And while the idea of living-room concerts might alarm the neighbors, Mark is careful to keep the music at a reasonable level — so much so that when you're standing on the porch, you can only faintly hear the sounds coming from inside. Props to Mark for a unique experience."

Special thanks to Westword, all my performing artists, co-hosts, and guests for making these events so wonderful.  Also special thanks to the Chings at Aspen Meadows House Concerts for their dedication to keeping the spirit of House Concerts alive and secure for years to come.

                                    The House

In August of 2005, the future home of the Highlands House Concerts was purchased near the Historic Highlands Square Neighborhood at 32nd and Lowell in Northwest Denver.  The house was built in 1890 and is similar to the historic Denver Squares that were built in the decades to follow.  The house received renovations including the removal off a wall between the living and family room which opened up into one room with 10-foot ceilings large enough for the performing artist and 40 seats.

The Host

Singer-songwriter, Dwight Mark, began his musical career in Chicago as a leader of the band Blues Express.  Prior to his move to Colorado in 1996, he purchased a mandolin and dobro and began studying bluegrass music. Once in Colorado, Dwight quickly adapted the mandolin and bottleneck slide dobro guitar into contemporary folk and pop music while taking them along to travels around the world and 35 of America’s National Parks.  With his new CD release, Soul’s Engines, Dwight shares his stories of his move to Colorado, his travels, and the relationships along the way.   Dwight’s heartfelt and soulful performances are played on guitars, mandolins, Portuguese guitarras, ukulele, and a rare Weissenborn Hawaiian slide guitar built in the 1920's.  Acoustic Guitar Magazine’s Andy Volk says, “Dwight’s vibrant, richly textural arrangements and soaring vocals describe a crossroads where acoustic, folk, rock, and pop meet in songs that celebrate the beauty of nature and the unbridled joy of the groove.”
